ABOUT OUR CONTEST...​
Scissortail Music is dedicated to providing positive, meaningful music experiences for students of all ages and skill levels. Our Solo & Ensemble Contest offers an educational and supportive environment where musicians can grow through performance. The contest is open to public, private, and homeschool instrumental students (elementary through high school), as well as adult students studying in a music studio who are seeking a valuable performance opportunity.Participants work with trained judges and experienced educators, ensuring that each performance is evaluated fairly and accompanied by constructive, personalized feedback to support continued growth.

Solo Contest

Solo Registration Fee
$10 per solo

Registration is due by
April 9, 2026
Late entries accepted until April 18, 2026 with an added $5 late fee per entry.

All solos must be accompanied (unless the composer wrote the piece to be performed unaccompanied).
Recorded accompaniments are permitted, but are the full responsibility of the competing student. This includes the equipment necessary to play the recorded accompaniment.

Please note.....
Solos do not need to be memorized to compete, but only solos played from memory will be eligible for the rating of 1+ and eligible for Outstanding Soloist Award.

Judging...
Participants will be judged on tone quality, intonation, rhythm, technique, interpretation, musicianship, musical effect, bow control, memorization (only memorized solos are eligible for the score of 1+ and Outstanding Soloist),
​
All participants must provide original music with measures numbered to be provided to the judge. Photocopies will not be permitted.

Scissortail Solo & Ensemble Contest is open to string students
(ensembles may include non-string instruments) in elementary
(5th grade and under/ages 10 and under), middle school
(6th-8th grades/ages 11-14),
high school
(9th-12th grade/ages 15-18)
and adults
(ages18+)​

A link for payment will be emailed once registration form is completed.

Special Considerations:
We will do our best to honor requests to keep schools/studios/families in the same time block or schedule students with multiple performances in a way that allows them compete in the same room. Please make those requests with registering.
​

Ensemble Registration Fee
Small, 2-4 members - $20
Medium, 5-9 members - $30
Large, 10-12 member - $40
XL, 13+- $50
